I was just married this past October, but my husband is from the US and would obviously not have filed for income tax in Canada. As he is trying to immigrate here, I am currently the sole support for our family. From reading other answers regarding couples where one partner has not filed their taxes, it sounds as though I will not be receiving the rebate as there will only ever be one set of income taxes filed until my husband is accepted as a permanent resident and can apply for his Social Insurance Number.

I would like to invest $100000 cash in a monthly income generating mutual fund which is
low risk - I read that some pay div , interest and return of capital.
Can I have the names of three funds that are tax efficient and low risk and one that pays
a 4 to 6 cents dividend per unit per month and one to consider purchasing outside the RRSP.
I know that stocks and mutual funds are not guaranteed like GICs.
So I am more interested in preserving my capital and yet receive a decent monthly payout.

Just received a paper in the mail on Friday. "Goods and services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) Credit Notice"

It says I DON'T qualify because my family net income is more than $45,125. I thought anyone who earns less than $160,000 should get a HST rebate cheque??? Shouldn't I be eligible for this? Neither my wife or myself have received any HST rebate cheque. :(

My 2009 income included a one-time severance payment which made my net income over $80,000. According to your rules I now, do not qualify for the HST rebate, yet this was due to loss of my job and the severance payment has blown my 2009 income out of proportion as to the norm. Are there exceptions to this $80,000 limit when there are extenuating circumstances?

Long story short, five years ago I opened (and became administrator of) a corporation for a friend (he was in bankruptcy). I recently "reacquired control", only to discover no GST was ever paid, no income taxes paid, nothing filed, etc even though the company had revenues of 400-500k a year. Most of the money went to my "friend", either as checks written out by him to himself (he was a signing officer), ATM cash withdrawals or online banking payments/transfer. After crunching some rough numbers, best case scenario I owe (at least) 100k in GST/PST. I've begun talks with Revenu Quebec (this is in Montreal, Quebec) regarding monies owed.

Question:

Would I be able to deduct any GST/PST payments as a loss of some kind from my income? (I have a regular 40-hour week job.)

http://www.basicallymoney.com/questions/2193/is-the-osttb-unfair-for-some-single-parents-whose-ex-spouses-have-remarriedIs the OSTTB unfair for some single parents whose ex-spouses have remarried?Norma2010-06-30T16:50:21Z2010-06-30T21:08:19Z

I am a single Mom with joint custody of my young son. My ex-spouse is remarried and has had children with his current spouse. He therefore qualifies for the family rate of HST regardless. I understand that for the purpose of the OSTTB Rebate, whether I am single, or a family, depends on when I receive the CCTB for my son. Years ago, CRA arbitrarily determined that my ex-spouse would receive the CCTB from Jan-June and I would from July-December. Therefore, I am only entitled to one HST Rebate Cheque (November) at the family rate and will receive the single rate for the June 2010 and June 2011 cheques simply by virtue of the fact of the timing of the CCTB. This is a difference of $230. Should I be writing a letter to CRA to request a review?
